The Basics
The basic tools are the feeders, the feed scoop, the waterers, and the like. Even in these you have a lot of choice. You can buy plastic waterers and plastic feeders, or you can go with galvanised metal feeders. There are treadle feeders that will only give out feed when a chicken is on it, and not to any smaller vermin if you have a vermin problem. Use the right feeders and waterers and you will be surprised by how much of a difference you see in your chickens.
The Small Stuff
There is a lot of small stuff that is good to have around. Extra bulbs, electrical tapes, scoops, leg rings, wiring – there is a lot of stuff that may not seem useful right now, but one day you are really going to be happy that you bought it previously. This stuff doesn’t cost a lot, so it is always good to have some extra.
The Safety Measures
You also have to make sure that your chickens stay safe. You should always have some disinfectant with you. You should also always have some anti red mite spray on hand. The concentrated red mite powder that is used to get rid of large infestations is something you buy when you already have an infestation. You should, however, have a diluted spray bottle at all times to ensure that you’ll be able to get rid of any red mites you see.
This is just some of the basic stuff – visit Little Fields Farm and you’ll see lots of things that will be useful to have around.
